There are certain populations and conditions that will benefit from or must have 1 to 1 medical exercise training. The reason for this type of training is not only to ensure that the elements of the training session are performed correctly but also there are certain conditions that require personal assistance to ensure the safety and efficiency of each exercise the client is doing.
This what happens with 1 to 1 training:
- MEDICAL HISTORY – Prior to any session, the prospective client is asked to meet with us to sit down and talk about their medical history. To some, this may be a private conversation but it is very important for the medical exercise specialist to get a complete picture of the prospective client’s medical background in order to provide the safest and most effective workout program for their condition. If the client is referred from a medical professional, that medical professional will be contacted to discuss the prospective client’s condition as well as any other medical professional involved (including GP’s and specialist) to ensure that we have a complete picture when determining the evolution of the clients workout program and to ensure that the client is trained with all cautions in mind as well as what exercises would most suited progress the management of their condition(s) (some clients come with more than one condition).
- Musculoskeletal Screening – The musculoskeletal screening is a very important process to our program with each client. This is done prior to any workout session and is repeated on a monthly basis. The main purpose of this screening is to give the medical exercise specialist a bird’s eye view of the client’s current physical strength, stability, and range of motion. This screening will also let us know if there are any lingering conditions that need further physical assessment through some of the specialized assessment tools we use to try to localize the root area of the newly discovered condition. From here it is not our job to diagnose the area of concern, however, you will be referred to a medical specialist who is trained to diagnose and treat the newly discovered condition.
